💧 Swiss Water Process Details
During the Swiss Water process, the green coffee undergoes a specialized, chemical-free decaffeination procedure:
- Green coffee is hydrated to expand the beans for caffeine extraction
- Hydrated coffee is introduced to Green Coffee Extract (GCE), a solution of concentrated coffee solubles
- Caffeine leaves the green coffee via osmosis while minimizing the loss of desired flavor compounds
- GCE is filtered of its caffeine through carbon filters and recycled for future use
- Decaffeinated green coffee is re-dried and re-bagged for transport
