🌍 Konga & the Gedeo Zone
The Gedeo Zone is one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated coffee-growing regions, known worldwide as the birthplace of Yirgacheffe. Dense with experienced smallholders and blessed with high elevations, cool temperatures, and fertile soils, this narrow plateau consistently produces coffees of exceptional aromatic complexity and clarity.
Konga, in particular, has long been recognized for quality, making it a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s specialty coffee reputation.
🤝 Single Farmer Lots Program
Following the establishment of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) in 2008, farm-level traceability became limited as coffees were anonymized and traded by region and grade. In response, the Single Farmer Lots Program was developed to preserve producer identity and allow select farmers to export coffee directly, without dilution through cooperative or exporter-level consolidation.
Takele Mammo Denbi is a new participant in this program, though he is far from new to Ethiopian coffee leadership. Having served for many years as Managing Director of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, Takele brings deep experience and commitment to farmer opportunity and quality.
This lot represents a rare chance to experience a fully traceable, single-farm Yirgacheffe, highlighting both producer dedication and Ethiopia’s natural processing tradition.
🌞 Processing & Drying
Ripe cherries are carefully harvested and dried whole on raised beds, allowing the fruit sugars to slowly infuse the seed over time. This natural process enhances sweetness and body while preserving the floral and fruit-driven character Yirgacheffe is known for.
